Balans has long attracted creative talent. Our liberal nature, 24-hour opening hours and the magic of Soho, means artists of all kinds and their spirited company have made our two restaurants in Soho – Balans No.60 and No 34 – unique places to be at all times of day and night.
Given the uncertain world we live in right now, we want to ensure we continue to do interesting things with creative people and to support their work wherever possible.
Therefore, we have set up BAP (Balans up and coming artists programme).
To give the program focus and a London connection, we will be initially looking to University of The Arts London’s students and alumni. We will shine a light on the huge talent at its colleges and support creatives with paid commissions and free exhibition space opportunities. (Given UAL Honorary Fellow, Simon Costin oversaw the design of our interiors, it felt even more kindred).
Our first project for Halloween saw the incredibly talented Aga Giecko, who studied at UAL Camberwell, create this series, here.
If you’re interested in being alerted when we put up paid commissions or offer free exhibition space for UAL students, alumni and faculty – email us at comms@balans.co.uk and we’ll add you to our list. We’re planning to add a couple more commissions in the coming weeks. Do help spread the word and please share with anyone at UAL you think may be interested.
